A beautiful day greeted the players at the start of the 23rd season at The Willows Cricket Club. On a very hot day at the start of play, The Willows won the toss and elected to bat against a welldrilled Metro team. The home team lost wickets at regular intervals and the innings never got going. The Willows eventually ended up on 125 all out in the 45th over. The best bowlers for the Metro team were B Cochrane with figures of 3 for 11 and M Bungard with 3 for 29.
Metro started their run chase and lost early wickets against a strong bowling attack. Leg-spinner Dave Wakefield was thrown the new ball and ended up with an impressive 4 for 23 and the Metro team was in trouble at 36 for 5. However, an unbroken sixth wicket partnership between Dan Vann and James Carr steered the Metro team to a well-deserved victory – the sixth on the trot for them and something The Willows selectors need to be mindful of in 2017.
A big thank you to the Metro team, umpires and scorers on the day. We really appreciate all your efforts.
