The Willows 155/5

The Willows
won by 5 wickets

This was the 22nd match between these teams. Eleven have been won by The Willows, nine have been lost and one drawn match. Both teams were keen to have another win and at the same time catch up with old friends and make some new ones.

The Craz won the toss and elected to bat. Mark Hutchinson played very well with some well executed drives down the ground. Last year’s top scorer, Richard Breitmeyer, was dismissed by an outstanding catch at mid-on by Jacob Wolt and wickets fell regularly until Mark was joined by Raneira Tini for a 50 run partnership. Solid contributions from Glen Wedlake 17, Jamie Summer 19, and Bob Masefield 15, enabled The Craz to score 153 but they were dismissed in the 39th over by some steady Willows bowling. Lance Ryan took 3 for 7 off two and Eugene McFarlane 3 for 13 off five.

In reply, The Willows opening batsmen Jonathan Davidson 37, and Willie Lyons 36, produced an opening partnership of 80. Graeme Inglis continued the run chase with a fine 32 but accurate bowling by all the Peninsula Craz bowlers restricted the scoring and The Willows managed another win with three balls remaining.

It was a great game, enjoyed by all concerned and I am sure this fixture will continue to be played in a competitive but friendly approach for years to come. Many thanks to the umpires Graeme Evans and John Rose who are both highly regarded and well appreciated by all players.
