once again, it was a great pleasure to captain The Willows against the Medbury Headmaster’s XI The Willows won the toss which was a great start to the day with superb conditions and wonderful weather. The Willows were looking good when Medbury were 19/2 with Craig Thiele and Mike Mclntyre looking extremely lively creating false shots.
Ben Yock arrived at the crease and virtually took us apart, retiring at 100 after an exciting 52 ball innings. His partnership with Stephen Cunis, who scored 82 not out, was a match winner, both sweetly timing the ball. Stephen Moorhead chipped in with a very polished 41.
Of The Willows bowlers, John Reid and Lyn Sparks did assist to put the screws on with some fine bowling. A first wicket partnership of 51 was followed by all sorts of problems, with no Willows batsmen carrying on with any worthwhile partnership. Stephen Cunis, Martin Snedden and Bob Masefield carved The Willows side in half using the conditions extremely well.
There were many special moments during the day, lots of laughs and wonderful mixing of ex internationals, current provincial representatives and club players. All in all cricket was the winner, but I must say the Headmaster, David Brooke, maintained his radiant personality throughout the day and departed the ground looking forward to another win next season.
