The Willows
won by 6 wickets

On a brilliantly fine day at the Willows, Mobil Oil lost a closely contested game by six wickets. The match featured a number of former internationals including Sir Richard Hadlee and Mark Priest on opposite sides from former team mate Stephen Boock and Troels Nielsen, a much travelled former Danish international.

Stephen Boock’s duck was arguably the game’s highlight, followed by a hard-hitting, composed knock of fifty by David Bond, opening the batting for Mobil. The pick of the Willows bowlers was Jeremy lnnes whose five wicket bag was largely responsible for restricting the Mobil to 171 all out after a very impressive opening partnership between Bond and Scott, who took toll of an evidently ageing and less flexible Richard Hadlee.

The Willows, thanks to some fine batting from Boys’ High School’s J Hantz (40) and visiting English professional J Hussan (79) scored the runs with relative ease for the loss of only four wickets. The geriatric tail enders were suitably protected from having to toil in the afternoon heat.
