The Willows
lost by 34 runs
The “Dayle and Us Show” murmured Pro Wallace as we applauded Dayle Hadlee leading us off for tea. This, after Dayle had bowled three of Clarrie’s men in the space of a dozen balls and after he had plundered their attack for a round 100 retired earlier in the day.
lt was a merciless demolition job both with the bat and ball by Dayle. The “ton", one of controlled aggression, was against many of his Saturday HSOB team mates. Surely for the 1998 fixture, Clarrie will have the cheque book out and sign him up prior to TheWillows match availability mail-out!
On reflection however, the game was a good one and others had the chance to shine. Five hundred plus runs were scored in the full quota of 100 overs. While there was a clear man-of match, many players on both sides scored well and made the bowlers work hard. In the end, theWillows’ (who batted first) total of 271 was 34 more than Clarrie’s men could muster.
Another interesting statistic was the low number of byes let through (considering the run feast) by the keepers, vs Clarrie’s skipper, Murray Mowat and our own Peter Wallace. In the end both Mo and Pro matched each other with a stumping apiece and the banter in the middle continued through to the sausages and after-match. Sparring mates of old. Thanks to Clarrie and his team for an excellent day.
