"Shirts Off!"

We could excuse Brian Hastings for removing his shirt and lunching half-naked in temperatures which soared to 35°+. “Hasto” had batted for 40 minutes to be not out at the lunch break and was physically distressed!

Nevertheless he provided good support and an old head for James Bennett (a House Tutor at Waihi School) who looked better in attack than defence and hit his way to 100 including six 6’s. A total of 309 read well, but as the pitch conditions were excellent, the outfield fast, gaps wide and the bowling tempting, 309 was achieved by theWillows for the loss of only 2 wickets.

Two very good centuries from PhiI Harris and Marcel McKenzie, with wristy flows from PhiI and many well-timed graceful strokes from Marcel saw the Willows home in their first encounter with the MCC.

Grateful thanks to Ken Greenslade, the Manager and Organiser of the MCC for travelling from Arrowtown and Queenstown for this fixture.
