The Suburban Captain, Ken Lomax, won the toss and elected to bat on a green and slightly damp wicket. There was a competitive atmosphere with Willowers playing for Suburban and Suburban players appearing for the Willows.
Wade Cornelius bowled with aggression and pace which was complemented by his fearsome opening partner, Graeme lnglis, who was somewhat more friendly, but just as effective. Suburban scored relatively freely with Phil Harris (52) and Stephen Booth (35) in partnership, but managed only 24 runs off the final 8 overs and finished at 206/9.
The main contributor for theWillows was Graeme lnglis who scored 92 and was the sixth batsman dismissed with the team score at 157. Graeme placed the ball in the gaps and allowed a very fast outfield to reward his good timing. After Graeme’s dismissal, the scoring rate slowed a little. However, Derek Burrell andWade Cornelius scored the 50 runs required for victory in the final 28 minutes of play.
The game was played in excellent spirit with all players contributing to their team efforts. Many thanks to umpires John Elley and Milton Tindall andTony Campbell the scorer.
