The Willows
won by 6 wickets

A moment’s silence was observed before the Game to pay our respects to Michael Henderson who had passed away ince our last encounter. Michael was an energetic cricket enthusiast in Motueka.

The toss was won by the Willows and as is the norm, we chose to bat. A positive opening partnership of 56 set the tone for the innings. After 22 was added for the second wicket Darin Cusack joined Corey James in an excellent partnership for 127 for the third wicket. Corey displayed a full range of shots in his 82.

At the fall of the fourth wicket, Lee Germon joined Darin. In adding a n unbeaten 6 3 i n the last ‘ 7 and a bit’ overs they displayed all their talents and experience. They were positive in their strokeplay and ran aggressively between the wickets. An excellent total of 278 was achieved.

The Weka bowlers stuck to their task well, and thereby ensured the total did not get out of hand and was attainable on an excellent pitch.

The Wekas’ reply was based around an excellent century by Blair Krammer. Blair displayed a full range of shots and an ability to fully apply himself. It certainly was advantageous to the Willows when he retired. It needed one other batsman to get a sizeable score to see the Wekas through.

Bowling for the Willows, Stephen Flanagan took 1 for 17 off 8 overs, to give him an excellent double for the match.

This was an excellent game of cricket with 540 runs being scored for the loss of only 11 wickets. Two young batsmen in Blair Krammer and Corey James displayed their talent.
