The Willows
won by 9 runs

Another hot day greeted those arriving at the ground. St Bede’s boys were brimming with enthusiasm and were ut on the field completing warm-ups while some Willowers were still arriving. The St Bede’s captain started the day well winning the toss and elected to bowl first. The wicket, while not at all dangerous, was demanding of the batsmen, being slow in nature with the occasional ball keeping quite low. However, Paul McCarthy and Glen Colven combined well for an 82 run partnership for the third wicket. Following their departure runs were rather hard to come by with the next highest score being 13. The Willows were bowled out in the 48th over for 155.

The St Bede’s top order batsmen found the going tough as well and slumped to 25/4, but captain Oliver Cunneen played a patient innings and top scored with 59. The Willows’ attack was dominated by three left arm spinners (which is always a good thing!), while the youth/experience combination of Cleighten Cornelius and Denis Aberhart proved difficult foes for the opposition. In the end experience prevailed and St Bede’s fell ten runs short.

Our congratulations go to the St Bede’s boys who fought hard both in the field and at the batting crease. Thanks to umpires Craig Cowper and Brian Tutty.
