The Willows
lost by 3 wickets

This is a result best described as ‘the one that got away’.

We won the toss and elected to bat first on a very good wicket, with a reasonably fast outfield.

Both Graeme Inglis and Gareth Brooks batted well, if a little slowly early in their innings. Once Geoff Miller arrived at the wicket the run rate increased dramatically. The final total of 223 should have been a very defendable target.

Hawkswood started slowly and at 53/4 and the 80/5 everything appeared to be well in control other than for one annoying factor- Robbie Deans! Andrew Nuttall arrived at the wicket and with Deans methodically dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground.

Eventually the winning run was scored off the third ball of the 50th over- a great game which was enjoyable for all.
