Match Report By Mike Singleton Willows XI Captain
Despite the ground being in excellent condition, Willows found themselves second best to a highly disciplined and polished St Kevin’s College side. From the outset, St Kevin’s displayed impressive composure, executing their bowling plans with maturity.
Willows, meanwhile, put themselves under pressure with questionable shot selection, losing wickets in clusters and making the task of compiling a solid score increasingly challenging. Five batsmen failed to trouble the scorers, leaving the innings on the back foot and searching for stability. Carter Woodgate fought admirably for his 60, showing patience and grit while others fell around him. But once he departed, Willows were soon dismissed in the 41st over. The disciplined St Kevin’s attack was well led by an outstanding five-wicket haul from Flynn Sandford.
Chasing a modest 167, St Kevin’s came out firing. The standout batting performance of the day belonged to late ring-in Todd Williams, who produced an authoritative 87. The visitors remained well ahead of the required rate throughout and, although there were a few late flutters as they closed in on the Willows total, they completed their win in the 29th over.
Despite the one-sided nature of the contest, the match was played in excellent spirit. St Kevin’s were superb on and off the field and a credit to their school and supporters. A tough day at the office for the hosts who fell well short, but the jubilant visitors deservedly headed home early with the Bob Wills Trophy tucked away.”
