The Willows
won by 166 runs
After a wet Saturday it was a relief to be at The Willows on Sunday with bright and sunny conditions.
Captain John Garry won the toss, so The Willows batted first, John opening the batting with his eldest son Jackson. On a fast and bouncy pitch, they safely negotiated a fiery opening spell from the King’s quicks and set up a solid platform putting on 114 runs before John was out for a well compiled 70. Another 71 runs were added by Jackson and Kelvin Scott before Kelvin was out for 27. Jackson was next out top scoring with 76, although we went through a period where several wickets quickly fell Tim Hampton-Matehe was in excellent form scoring 60 in great style.
While none of our middle and tail order got to double figures, the damage was well a truly done by our top four, so 282 all out was always going to be a very competitive score. To the credit of the Kings HS team they did a great job at the back end of our innings taking wickets and restricting the run rate.
As well as a team with some very experienced players, we also had real firepower with our young bowling attack. Charley Ward impressed early with genuine pace taking 2-19 off his 6 overs, and Rhys Watson-Webb equally impressive with 3-19 off his short spell. It was then the Garry show with Jackson 2-2 and younger brother Louie 2-28 mopping up the tail to have Kings HS all out for 116 in 31 overs.
