The Willows 25th Anniversary Dinner

Sport is one the most powerful vehicles to assist success in life.

It teaches key values, including integrity, teamwork and fair play. It has the power to celebrate the positive sides of humanity, regardless of backgrounds; we compete despite borders and boundaries, as friends. Sport has played a vital role in my life. It has shaped my character and installed the aforementioned values to the betterment of my personality. As my cricket coach Duncan Murray would say “sport makes you into the best version of yourself”.

It is instrumental in the development of key life skills. We learn how to conduct ourselves in a team environment, and how to learn off and lead others. Sport can lift you up when you’re down, helping build resilience.

It keeps us fit and healthy, offering a change from the repetitive nature of daily life. It is a rewarding means of entertainment and physical activity, giving us energy and strength.

Sport is a pathway to better mental and physical growth. We learn how to maintain mental balance, even in the midst of loss and despair. It develops team spirit and hones mental and physical toughness, leading to more positive wellbeing.

Sport makes us who we are, and allows us to stretch ourselves further than we thought possible.
