Rex bamboozled

Not often our irrepressible club photographer Rex Hayward, aka Lord Lichfield, is left non- plussed. He was one match a season or two back. As you know, to do his job Rex will pop out on to the field of play, amid the action, beside the square-leg umpire or outside second slip to get the best vantage point for that ace shot.

It was during one school game (he conveniently cannot remember which one) when on the field of play he heard: “well done Diane”, “this one’s yours, Amanda”. Strange, he thought the female 1st XI match was played back in October. So somewhat bemused he baled up the nearest lad to find out what’s going on? The explanation was simple “We call each other by our girlfriends’ names”.

Rex mulled this over for a while. He thought of all the cogitations that could result from this practice: what if you didn’t have a girlfriend? what if you had a boyfriend instead? and what if you had multiple girlfriends? It all got a bit mind- boggling. Safer to stick to photography Rex.
