Extract from a letter to The Times from Lord Harris (3 February 1931) Read by J.C.Donnelly

"You do well to love cricket, for it is more free from anything sordid, anything dishonourable, than any game in the world. To play it keenly, honourably generously, self-sacrificingly is a moral lesson in itself, and the classroom is God’s air and sunshine. Foster it, my brothers, so that it may attract all who can find the time to play it; protect it from anything that would sully it, so that it may grow in favour with all men."

That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; Who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it, who never lacked appreciation of Earth’s beauty, or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others, and gave the best he had; his memory is a benediction.
