The Willows
won by 78 runs
It was a beautiful late spring Sunday morning when The Willows welcomed Wellington College to Loburn, a precursor to their fixture with CBHS the following day.
The Willows won the toss and elected to bat. After a shaky start David Wakefield (35) and Luke Scully (50) put together a solid partnership to anchor The Willows innings and see the home team through to 140. A modest score but nonetheless runs on the board and with the pitch providing variable bounce The Willows bowlers knew they had a chance.
Wellington College old boy Trevor Garret took the new ball off the long run and didn’t take long to rattle the stumps taking 2/13, with another former Wellington student, leg spinner Henry Glogau, also bowling with aplomb to take 4/16 in conjunction with the evergreen Andrew Nuttall who, as ever, tied up an end suffocating scoring. Adrian McFedries made his return to the crease at The Willows for the first time in ten years and although not troubling the scorers with the bat he showed he still had the magic with ball in hand.
Wellington were eventually bowled out for 60 giving The Willows a comfortable victory and an early port.
