The Willows
lost by 7 wickets

After a week when the prospect of any cricket looked remote, thanks to the great efforts of The Willows ground team the game got underway as scheduled. Having won the toss Northwest didn’t have to think long about deciding to put The Willows in to bat on a very green pitch. Against some very tight and demanding bowling from the Northwest attack, The Willows innings never gained any momentum and was restricted to a score of 106/8 off their 50 overs. Only Tom Music made any progress with a patient 33 against a four pronged spin attack which was well led by Will O’Brien who finished with the excellent figures of 5/12 off his 10 overs.

At the changeover the feeling was the score was defendable and for a while this proved to be the case as Northwest found the going equally tough. With their score at 27/3 off 18 overs at afternoon tea the match was evenly poised. Sadly for The Willows that was as close as it got; after tea a couple of injuries further reduced a thin Willows bowling attack and an excellent partnership between skipper Joel Williams and Will O’Brien, who capped off an excellent match, saw Northwest comfortably home to a fully deserved seven wicket win.
