It was a weird start to the day at The Willows. We won the toss, decided to field and got off to a good start with a tidy good opening spell from Nawid Mohammady and Lachie Stove. When St Bede’s were 2 for 30 it went from bright sunshine to a massive downpour. The game had to be halted for about an hour. After some horse-trading it was agreed the game would be shortened to 45 overs. Ben Trillo got things moving with a rapid 31. Thereafter, his team struggled through the middle overs but then entered Adam Poumaka. Adam walked out with a 1980s Gunn & Moore Maestro bat. He proceeded to prove that sometimes old things are just as good as new ones, as he smashed the ball to all parts of the ground including a fine six onto the roof of the pavilion. St Bede’s ended on 194 for 6 off their 45.

The Willows boys thought this was a gettable total and so it proved to be the case. Kelvin Scott got the innings off to an absolute flyer. His first five scoring shots were all fours. He made 45 off about 25 balls. At the other end Matthias Paltridge batted throughout the innings compiling a very elegant 57 not out. Enter Josh McCarthy who took over from where Kelvin left off and scored an entertaining 83 not out. The Willows reached the target in the 30th over. George Gunn was the pick of the St Bede’s bowlers and he looks set to have a promising future in the game.

As always it was a very enjoyable day. Thanks to everyone who made the day special, in particular the St Bede’s parents who came along. See you next year.
