The Willows went into the match under duress. Prior to the match a number of e-mails had circulated reminding the playing XI that The Willows had lost this fixture last year and back to back losses were simply not going to be tolerated! This duress certainly played out in the early part of the match as we quickly found ourselves under the pump at 23 for 3!

Thankfully the evergreen Phil Harris strode to the wicket and began to restore some order. This allowed Chris Mugford and Angus Smith to express themselves and once Angus left the crease The Willows were in a commanding position. Tim McConnell played a cameo of an innings towards the end which meant that our 253 was going to be tough to attain.

The Willows were able to pick up regular wickets thanks to some fine catching by yet again that man Harris. There were useful bowling contributions from Mark Evans, Craig Hinton, Mackenzie Smith and Jack Hilton, who was on debut. The most spectacular catch of the day went to Craig Hinton who managed to get himself well out of position in the deep and he had to make significant ground back to his original position before diving one handed to pull off the catch. Tim McConnell backed his batting performance up with some sound glove work.

The boys were dismissed for 151 and The Willows players could all breathe a collective sigh of relief. A good team effort all round. Chris Mugford was awarded the MVP award for his brilliant knock of 91. Gail kept the scorebook in immaculate condition all through the day while Omkar and Woodsie ran a tight ship out in the middle. It was pleasing to see both the Headmaster and Deputy Principal watch the entire game. Thank you for supporting your team.
