The Willows
won by 34 runs

Once again it was a fine day at Loburn. The Willows won the toss and, as is typical, elected to bat on a well prepared wicket.

Opening the batting for The Willows was Oliver Hutton, grandson of the late Sir Len Hutton. Scoring runs was difficult due to an accurate attack, and a well drilled, energetic fielding side.

Following the loss of an early wicket, The Willows batting was steady and at 61/3 afier 24 overs, they were keen to improve the scoring rate. The batsmen, however, continued to struggle, but they made full use of the allotted 50 overs with the last pair adding 42 in the final 4 overs.

The Wellington College opening batsmen made a positive start and were 33 without loss after 14 overs. The clamps were applied by Michael Peacock, who bowled a demanding 10 overs which included 6 maidens and he finished with the outstanding figures of 1/12. This spell of bowling put pressure on the incoming College batsmen who lost wickets steadily in an attempt to up the tempo.

The game ended in the 45th over, but not before Oliver Hutton had taken his first wicket for The Willows.
