On arrival at The Willows, the ground was again at its welcoming best.
We won the toss and elected to bat but unfortunately at 7/2 that decision was under some scrutiny. With solid contributions developed first by Phil Harris, then Andrew Ellis (ex-SBHS) and later by Ryan Burson we finally completed the 50 overs with a respectable score of 186. The wickets were equally shared by all the Boys’ High bowlers with the opening bowler Harvey proving to be the most economical.
The Boys’ High innings started off with a hitch when Ryan Burson removed S Wells in his second over. From there through to 100 runs they steadily lost wickets but at the same time were accumulating runs. Unfortunately the last five wickets to fall only added 13 runs. The outstanding batsmen for the Otago Boys’ were Lawson, Bates and Arthur. From what these three showed Otago cricket is in good hands for the future.
A superb day’s cricket with an excellent standard of conduct shown by everyone involved.
