After winning the toss and electing to bat, it was the St Bede’s team who took advantage of early opportunities.
The St Bede’s batsmen, notably D.Anderson (62) and C.McDonald (55) showed maturity beyond their years and kept a steady pace through the middle of the innings . Anderson was joined by captain A.Johnstone who scored quickly after the lunch break to finish on 93 not out – certainly the highlight of the innings.
A fast-scoring finish allowed St Bede’s to end on a brilliant total for a schoolboy team of 294 for five after 50 overs.
An excellent batting track and lightning fast outfield ensured the Willows were optimistic going in to bat. Opener Stephen Gibson proved the best of the batsmen, scoring a very good 70. Unfortunately wickets fell regularly for the Willows team, with the honours shared equally among the bowlers.
To add to the misery, the Willows could only bat 10 due to injury and finished over 100 short at 191/9.
It was a wonderful effort by St Bede’s, who played excellent all round cricket and fielded superbly.
