Captaining the Willows for the first time, and not being in a Willows team before, I was determined to gain respect from the selectors and obtain another invitation to play at this beautiful ground.
After much debate between the captains, Medbury batted first to post a score of 206, which given the conditions was somewhat light by 60-70 runs. The main contributor was Charlie Bennetto with 46. The bowling and fielding effort by the Willows was of top standard.
The target was eclipsed in the 30th over with excellent contributions from Matthew Wright (70 not out), Tom Fisher and Mike Hamel who both scored 52. The depth of the batting with the likes of Ben Yock and Carl Anderson indicated a score of 300 might have been achieved.
The normal aftermatch function consists of a sausage sizzle, beer and coke, but on this occasion, thanks to the Tandoori Palace, the players and spectators were treated with magnificent curry and Tandoori chicken. The humble sausage appeared meek and mild compared to this tasty spread.
Another successful day at the Willows.
