The Willows
won by 4 wickets

History was made for the Club with the first mid-week fixture at the Willows – against the Primary Club of Australia. The 40 over game commenced at noon, and on winning the toss the visitors had no hesitation in batting on a superb day and pitch.

The Primary Club made a solid start, 99 for two at one stage, before the introduction of wily spin twins Keith Yardley and Arthur Pitcher swung the game back in favour of the home side. Keith finished with 2 for 28 and Arthur 2 for 35. There was good support from Murray Evans and Rev Michael Hawke who offered our Australian guests some spiritual advice when at the bowling crease. For the visitors, the familiar figure of Peter Devlin scored a brisk 59. The Primary Club were all out for 199.

The Willows’ charge for victory was lead by the sure batting of Graeme Inglis (59 retired) and Simon Cunliffe, who compiled 43 in quick time. The winning of the game was left in the hands of Rev Hawke, who steered the Willows to a comfortable 3 wicket victory.

A very enjoyable day was had by all, and the game was played in great spirit.
