Medbury HM’s XI 95/8

C Bennetto 43*, W Cornelius 5/32

The Willows
lost by 2 wickets

This match was played in ideal conditions and was hard fought. Medbury’s Captain, John Mitchell, won the toss and decided to bat.

The Willows got off to a very slow start which was due to a fine opening spell from M Davidson at one end and D Chaffey at the other. The innings never really gained momentum and the side was bundled out for 92. Special mention must be made of the two Christ’s College boys, A Thomas and S Clouston who bowled extremely well during the middle stages. The Willows team was still confident of victory, despite setting a meagre target of 93.

With a devastating spell of bowling from young Wade Cornelius, who was ably supported by Craig Thiele, the Medbury XI was reeling at 79/8. But thanks to a determined innings from Charles Bennetto (43 not out), the visitors got home without losing another wicket.

It was an excellent day’s play and it was fantastic to see our young players matching it against some experienced campaigners.
