This, the final match of the season on the Willows calendar, proved to be an excellent game of cricket. On winning the toss, the Willows immediately opened up its ‘big gun’. Lee Germon was sent to the wicket to entertain everyone bar the bowlers with an exhibition of beautifully executed shots. He batted until after lunch, scoring 86, most of these runs being scored in partnership with Martin Hadlee who contributed a polished 62. The rest of the batting failed to make an impact and the Willows took the field to defend a somewhat disappointing 220.
Tight and determined bowling b y Stephen Flanagan, Bruce lrvine and Adrian McFedries kept the match interesting almost until the last over, but Woodbank always had wickets in hand.
Special mention must be made of Martin Hadlee’s eight overs for 18 runs, and the superb fielding of Adrian McFedries and Hamish McCarthy.
A loss, but a hard fought and cheerful game of cricket to finish another excellent Willows season.
