The Willows
won by 101 runs

John Gardner captained Flaxton, a side rumoured intent on taking the Willows apart. Spice was added when Founder Mike presented the “Diana Trophy” prior to the game, Diana being John’s wife and Mike’s friend from school days.

The Willows took advantage of the toss and a sunny day. A magnificent Paul McEwan century (104 retired) contributed to an impressive 248/8 off 50 overs.

Flaxton found the going too tough against Phil Harris (2/13), Sam Davis (1/12), Keith Yardley (3/26) and two wickets apiece from John Mitchell and Murray Smith. Despite a polished batting display from John Gardner (37), Flaxton succumbed for 147.

Mike Dormer did a Jekyll and Hyde by appearing at number eleven for Flaxton (0 not out) and bowling an over of leggies for the Willows. Good to see you out there Mike!

Afterwards, an extended time of conviviality was shared by all. We are looking forward to playing for Diana again next season.
