The Willows
won by 90 runs

The day began on an inauspicious note with the late arrival of the captain, an instant fine for not wearing a Club tie, a batting order drawn out of a hat, and with such a confused toss with the opposing captain that, at 11am, four batsmen were padding up, However, in time all was sorted out and with Willows opening pair Guy Bromley and Darin Cusack putting on 62 in quick time followed by an even more prolific partnership of 91 for the second wicket, we achieved the very good total of 229/7.

The opening bowling by Phil Harris and Hamid Ikram was outstanding and after 10 avers the Wanderers were 13 for 3, a total they never recovered from, In the heat of a typical NW wind, they slowly ground their way to be all out for 139 from 47 overs. Ikram with his slowish, slightly round arm style was difficult to score off while the pace and vigour of Harris and Lancaster was too much for the opposition. Ross Bailey proved no age barrier in completing 7 overs on the trot although by the end of the day his run up was distinctly shorter.
