The Willows
lost by 5 wickets

After electing to bat first on a good wicket, the College innings was built around several excellent partnerships and also significantly assisted by “extras” which contributed 68! All the College top order batted well and put pressure on the slightly less athletic Willows fielders with smart running between the wickets.

Michael Davidson top scored for College with 50 not out. The Willows’ attack was led by Wade Cornelius, and Hamish Anderson and Paul McEwan bowled economically.

With a target of 245, Peter Fulton (59) and Paul McEwan (35) provided the home side with a solid start. However a middle order collapse which left the Willows reeling at 163/8 appeared to make the result seem inevitable.

Hamish Hudson (22) and a flamboyant Joe Bennett (34 not out) gave the team a glimmer hope in the latter stages, but the last wicket fell at 230 and the school side had a deserved victory.

The main difference between the two sides was definitely extras!
