The Willows
won by 51 runs

Once again the Willowers arrived to find the Craz had stacked their flock with a bunch of young, athletic, confident, hormonal sons of farmers and mixed it with Bob Masefield. Mike Johnston inserted the Willowers who didn’t handle the vigour of Hugh Fraser at all well and found themselves 4 down for 60 until Mike Hamel (46) joined young Paul McCarthy (60) in a fine partnership of 76 runs. This set the scene for our two wily campaigners Andrew Nuttall (34) and Colin Hight (46) to set a very respectable total of 244/7. especially as the sun and wind were starting to take their toll on our country cousins or was it the previous night! !

The Willowers duly bounded out for the kill to knock the Craz over quickly but were thwarted by some stubborn partnerships until Mike Hamel tore the 2nd dreadlock in his vertebrae and was replaced in the middle of his over by an eager bystander in the form of Paul Rutledge who was determined to continue the miserly spell. This gave Troels Nielsen our Danish import the viking aggression needed and he tore the heart out of the Craz to finish with 5 wickets for 38 runs- a winning performance, to see them all out for 193. A win to us, however some ofthe Craz members would seem more at home wearing the Willows tie as they have played more often than most but appear content to gaze longingly at the trophy in our cabinet.
