This match was played on one of the most sweltering days of the holiday heat wave. The ground and wicket were in superb condition and after losing the toss the Willows were asked to bat first.
The innings started with a complete stutter before stability was introduced through the efforts of David Stead and Dennis Aberhart, the two senior members in our side, together with the youngster, Chris Bisman, who scored a gallant 33 at number eleven. The Wekas used seven bowlers resulting in excellent containment of the Willows innings to a total of 211/9.
The Wekas started disastrously losing their first wicket in the first over. However, they consolidated extremely well and appeared to be cruising to a successful conclusion aided by some fine batting from Duncan Cederman, their captain, who was eventually dismissed for a fine 92. He was well supported by Michael Henderson and other members of his team. The Willows managed to strike back through intelligent bowling by the veterans Stead and Aberhart and at one stage, with the introduction of Chris Bisman, who captured 2 wickets, the Willows were in with a chance – but this was not to be and the Wekas achieved a thoroughly deserved victory.
